The collection from Vinča was formed in the Belgrade City Museum in 1978 as a separate unit. During excavations since 1978 to 1986 and their renewal during 1998 and 1999, the latest residential horizon of the Vinča culture has been researched, its Aeneolithicic and Bronze Age strata, as well as the big old Serbian necropoles constructed between the 9-15 century. The reconstruction of the cultural stratum has been done in one zone of the site, so that the collection also covers a certain number of objects from all the phases of Vinča culture development. Besides the housing objects, the researches in Vinča have uncovered abundance of movable archaeological material. Some cult and religious artefacts, like ritual vases, anthropomorphic or zoomorphic figurines, create a special style in the development of the early European art. Archaeological researches in Vinča are continuing, but in view of the material collected on the Vinča site up to now, it may be expected that in the future this collection will be enriched by highlights of the Neolithic art.
