The
Memorial Museum of Ivo Andrić was founded right after the writer's
death in 1976, as a memory of our remarkable author, The Nobel Prize
in Literature 1961 winner. Though a citizen of Belgrade since 1919,
when he entered the diplomatic service, only when he married Milica
Babić (1958), a National Theatre costumier, did Andrić gain his true
home, after many years of bachelor life. An escritoire and his
personal library were his whole belongings up to then. The
Museum covers the regular exhibition of the authentic interior of his
home: a salon and a studio, a part of the Legacy of Ivo Andrić
including 6390 pieces. Other parts of his legacy comprise a remarkable
writer’s personal library, manuscripts, correspondence, photos, fine
art paintings, personal belongings, diplomas and medals.
